Scientists at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have observed a new particle called the pentaquark, the latest confirmation of the Standard Model of particle physics formulated in the 1960s. It’s one thing to know that pentaquarks might exist and another to be able to study them directly, and if this finding holds up (it hasn’t been peer reviewed) it means that LHC scientists have a lot of interesting work ahead of them studying this new type of particle.
