As the cable company’s stronghold, if not at one point virtual control, over reaching mass audiences is increasingly crumbling – and content companies such as Netflix and even retail giant Amazon getting into the mix of providing streaming content “over the top” through the Internet – Google’s YouTube is in the midst of building a live streaming video application to compete in what could be one of the most important media battlefields over the next decade.
